Our partnership with Education Matters

Education Matters is a charity that promotes and advances the education of individuals who may otherwise face obstacles in accessing educational opportunities.

Following a generous donation, Education Matters will be supporting one student with studying and living costs during their degree at The University of Manchester.

The Scholarship

For 2025 entry, we have one scholarship available which will:

  • pay for up to four years of a degree, excluding any intercalation, study abroad or industrial placement years;
  • pay an annual maintenance bursary of £8,000. Each year, continued receipt of the scholarship is dependent on satisfactory academic progression.

Application and selection process

All eligible students will need to complete an application form, show proof of eligibility and answer questions based on the priority criteria.

You’ll also need to write a 1500-word essay to demonstrate your long-term thinking about the world.

By Monday, 9th June, eligible students will get an email with further information. To help with your essay, you’ll need to complete an online study skills module.

The application form will open from Tuesday, 1 July until Sunday, 3 August at 11:59PM.

You’ll receive a decision by Friday, 12 September.

Still have a question?

Applicant enquiries should be sent to UAS@manchester.ac.uk.

If you'd like to be contacted when the application form is live, please complete this registration of interest form.

Students who’re also eligible for the Raheem Sterling Scholarship, Cowrie Scholarship, Moley Bursary and Sadler Bursary can still apply for this award.

However, you'll only be successfully awarded one scholarship/bursary.
