See how you can fund your online course
Whilst funding options for online postgraduate taught courses are not as numerous as those for undergraduate and PhD study, there are still a variety of options to explore for your online course. Below are options that are applicaple to our online courses including loans, scholarships, bursaries and tuition discounts. Each funding option has specific eligibility criteria, so make sure to check whether they apply to your course and your circumstances.
Loans, self-funding and employer funding
UK and EU students can apply for a postgraduate loan (often referred to as a Master’s Loan). For 2023/24 this could be up to £12,167 if your course starts on or after 1 August 2023. You can apply for this loan if you are studying for a standalone Master’s degree.
To qualify for a Postgraduate Master’s Loan for distance learning, you’ll need to be living in England on the first day of the first academic year of your course. You’ll also need to live in:
England for the whole of your course, if you’re an EU national
the UK for the whole of your course, if you’re not an EU national
These loans differ for each country within the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland)
A certain number of our postgraduate students are partially or even fully funded by their employer, so it might be an option worth to explore with yours. They would simply need to provide you with a sponsorship letter.
You can find out more about employer sponsorship, including requirements and a sponsorship letter template here
Many of our students self-fund their studies. Paying tuition fees, either yourself or on behalf of someone else, is easy and straightforward. We encourage payment in advance of the start of your studies to avoid unnecessary delays or problems transferring funds, especially for overseas payers.
If you are self-funding, there is the option to pay by instalments for your course so you can spread the cost of studying with us.
Instalments are usually at three times in the academic year.
The first instalment is due when you register to start your studies (normally the end of August/start of September) and the other two are normally in February and May.

The Equity and Merit program was the perfect opportunity for me, offering the flexibility I required. It took dedication and perseverance, as I was admitted on my third attempt, but it was worth every effort.
