Before you arrive
Now you’ve got your place, it’s time to get ready to move into University halls of residence.
Next steps before moving in
Move in dates vary by hall so it is important to check the move-in dates for your specific hall.
Please do not book your travel until you have confirmed your accommodation. If you arrive early, we will be unable to accommodate you.
Once you’ve accepted your offer, you won’t hear from our accommodation team until a few weeks before your arrival. From the last week in August, we will email you an online induction to complete.
The online induction will give you lots of information on moving in and getting settled into halls. The induction includes sections about your hall, ResLife (our residential support team), sustainability, consent and UoM Sport.
Important: the induction is mandatory, and you’ll need to complete our induction to book your slot to move into halls.
Your room will come with basic furnishings such as a bed, desk, chair, lamp, and wardrobe.
To feel comfortable in your hall, think about what items you’d like to bring. Practical essentials might include bedding, toiletries, and kitchenware. For personal touches, think about photos, posters, or small decorations that will make your room feel like home.
You can order bedding, kitchen and bathroom kits through our friends at UniKitOut, who deliver directly to your halls before you arrive. Save 10% with discount code MU10.
Some important items that you will need to pack are:
- photo ID
- your University ID number
- NHS medical card (if you have one)
- any medication you may need
- details of medical insurance (if needed)
- bank card and account information
- any other documents relating to your course
Once you’ve received your University offer, you can join your hall’s Facebook group.
