Join the General Assembly of The University of Manchester

The University of Manchester was founded with the purpose of delivering benefit to the public. As a member of our General Assembly, you’ll play a key part in ensuring that our communities are heard and share in the positive impacts of all we do.

We are England’s original civic university, with a vision bound with the ambitions of our city region. We share a pioneering spirit, shaped by our industrial past and inspired by the creative and innovative present. We’re committed to a cleaner, greener future; to research that addresses global challenges; and to helping the most talented learners access our teaching, regardless of background, means or nationality.

It is particularly important at this time that the voices of our communities are heard. As a member of the General Assembly, you'll play a key role in enabling this, as well as becoming part of a stimulating university.

The General Assembly has an integral part to play in our vision. It’s the forum that allows us to speak with wider society. It lets us share news and opportunities with our communities, and gives us the chance to take feedback and advice from those who know them best.

What you can bring

We are approaching you as we are looking to refine our General Assembly and believe that you could add real value as a member. From September 2021, the format will be refreshed to allow for deeper and more focused engagement. We want the Assembly to represent society, with a breadth of skills and experiences, including, but not limited to:

  • health;
  • education;
  • arts and culture;
  • digital, technological and media;
  • third sector, voluntary, environment and sustainability;
  • Greater Manchester anchor employers.

Crucially, we are looking for people who share in our vision and are able to provide insights that will best serve our communities.
