International Women's Day 2024: #InspireInclusion

We’re embracing inclusion and forging a path for the women of the future.

International Women’s Day is a time to raise awareness about discrimination, celebrate women’s achievements and take action to inspire inclusion.

This year’s United Nations call is to ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress’, recognising the alarming lack of financing identified as one of the key challenges in achieving gender equality by 2030.

As a University, equality, diversity and inclusion is central to Our future, our strategic plan, vision and values; we’re committed to accelerating and achieving gender equality for the benefit of our staff, students and wider community.

Our diversity and global connections also place us in the unique position of being able to make a difference for women as we seek a world that is free of bias, stereotyping and discrimination, and is fair for all.

Oyebanji Adewumi MBE, our Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, discusses her responsibility to inspire inclusion and how together we can make a difference:

“I will inspire inclusion as it’s not only my responsibility to do so, but, as a leader, I also need to raise awareness about the importance of valuing difference and challenging discriminatory practices and thereby building a brighter future for both women and men.

“Over the years, our University community of staff, students, alumni and partners have done a lot to progress inclusion locally, across the region and beyond. We are in the unique position of being able to make a difference for women as we seek a world that is free of bias, stereotyping and discrimination and is fair for all.

"This can only be achieved if we collectively try to make a difference each day by being intentional about inspiring inclusion."
