2D Materials of Tomorrow Centre for Doctoral Training

Discover the Centre

The Centre for Doctoral Training in 2D Materials of Tomorrow (2DMoT) is a four-year PhD programme which provides students with the knowledge and skills for cutting edge, cross-disciplinary research in the science and applications of two-dimensional materials - a new class of advanced materials with potential to transform modern technologies, from clean energy to quantum engineering.

Available projects

  • Materials discovery, including exploring limits of quantum materials based on twistronic heterostructures.
  • 2D materials and heterostructures for adaptive and energy-efficient optoelectronics and thermal management.
  • Proton-conducting 2D membranes and separators for energy-efficient green hydrogen technologies: 2D-crystals-assisted solar water splitting, fuel cells, methane-to-hydrogen conversion.
  • Next generation filtration and separation membranes for environmentally-friendly technologies, e.g., water purification, biofiltration applications, designer nanomaterials for better plant-based food and beverages.
  • 2D material-enhanced composites and protective coatings.
  • Physico-chemical processes in 2D confined matter: transport of ionic liquids and gases, control and identification, developing applications for blue energy.
