Event description
The Purple Wave is UoM Sport’s mass participation event. To celebrate 200 years of the University, this year it is aiming to have 1,824 students, staff and alumni join ‘Team 200’ and be part of its wave in the Great Run’s Manchester 10km on Sunday, 26 May.
UoM Sport wants to make this the most inclusive Purple Wave it has had – and is encouraging everyone to run, walk, jog, or wheel their way across the city.
This year it has discounted the price of entries to £18.24 for early bird entries. There is also opportunity for free entry to those raising money for Manchester’s research in partnership with the University's alumni team. Every penny raised will help researchers bring us closer to solving the world’s biggest challenges. From cancer to stroke, climate change to global inequality, Purple Wave challengers will help Manchester experts find the answers faster.
As part of entry, participants will receive a special purple running shirt to create the University's distinctive ‘wave’ of purple. Once over the finish line, they will also receive a winners’ pack and medal from the Great Run.
On the day of the 10k, ‘Team 200’ will have a base at the Pendulum hotel where there will be music, face painting and access to a team of therapists providing support pre and post-event.
