How to fund your online course
There are a range of options to consider when deciding how to fund your online course:
- self-funding
- partial or full payment by employer
- scholarship, bursary, alumni discount or award from another organisation
- whether you’re located in the UK, EU or internationally
It’s worth researching what’s available as early as possible, allowing enough time to check your eligibility for external funding and being mindful of any associated deadlines for funding or course applications themselves.

Self-fund your studies
If you’re planning on funding online learning yourself, you have the option to break down the cost and pay in instalments. You can find out more information through the student support section on MyManchester, the University's student portal.

Secure employer funding
If your employer has a budget for training, you may be able to secure partial or full funding for a course. Speak to a member of your HR team or check back soon for our employee funding checklist.

Loans, scholarships and bursaries
Postgraduate loans (UK/EU)
If you’re an English or EU student living in the UK, you may be eligible for a loan from the government to cover the full cost of your master’s courses. Loans are non-means tested and paid directly to you.
Postgraduate loans (outside UK)
If you’re a UK resident living in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Guernsey or Jersey, you may be able to secure a loan from the local funding authorities to help with the cost of your master’s course.
Manchester Master's Bursary (UK only)
We’re committed to helping talented students access further education, regardless of background. If you meet our criteria, you could be allocated a grant worth £4,000 to go towards your studies.
Manchester Alumni Scholarship Schemes (UK/EU/international)
If you completed your undergraduate degree at Manchester, you could receive a discount on a master’s course. Our alumni scholarships are offered at a Faculty level and open to UK, EU and international students.
Equity and Merit Scholarships (international only)
If you’re a learner joining us from Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda or Tanzania and feel passionate about making a difference in your home country, you can apply for an Equity and Merit scholarship to cover the full cost of course tuition fees.
Funding for students with disabilities (UK/EU/international)
If you have a disability, our Disability Support Office can help you search and apply for relevant funding opportunities to finance course and equipment costs. This covers initiatives for UK, EU and international students.
