Living in Manchester as a master's student
Whether you choose to live in University halls of residence, in private accommodation or at home, there are plenty of ways to connect with other students.
We offer postgraduate-only events at the beginning of the academic year, giving you the chance to meet other students on your course and beyond.
You can also get involved in student societies through the Students’ Union, which has an Executive Team to advocate on your behalf.
Moving to Manchester
Moving to a new city for your master’s can be daunting. You may be wondering about accommodation – whether you should live in University halls or private rental accommodation. You may be wondering how to make new friends in a short space of time.
University accommodation is available to you, including postgraduate-only halls. We also have a limited supply of accommodation for couples.
Families, couples and solo students can also apply for accommodation through Manchester Student Homes, a free, university-run housing service for students that gives you access to accommodation available through approved landlords.
The city of Manchester is named one of the ten friendliest cities in the world by Rough Guides and is somewhere you’ll soon come to call home.
Whether you get involved in activities through the University or Students’ Union or in local community events, you’ll find Manchester an easy place to make new friends.
Living at home and commuting
Lots of students choose to live at home during their studies and commute to campus.
